Meet Melinda Bass Owner and Administrator of Ascend Hospice Care. This week we want to recognize this wonderful caring woman! Here is a little about Melinda in her own words.
My name is Melinda Bass, I’ve been a nurse for over 20 years. I graduated from Lee College nursing program in 1996. I have lived and worked in the area my entire life. My father was an EMT for the Winnie Stowell Fire Department and Ambulance Service. He drove the ambulance and took pride in helping his community. I like to think that he is the reason I chose to become a nurse. I went into nursing after my grandmother became ill and required assistance and required help with her everyday activities. I am married to the love of my life James Bass we have 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
Over the past years I have worked in the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital for the SNF unit that had a hospice wing at which time I gained some experience taking care of hospice patients. I then realized my love for caring for hospice patients and families. I later was given the opportunity to work with a coworker who opened her own home health business. For several years I worked as a Home Health nurse gaining my nursing experience in the home health field. Often times I assisted with transitioning of patients and families whom where ready or hospice care.
A few short years ago I tragically lost my mom and dad. This experience gave me the opportunity to pursue my dream. I know that my dad would be so proud to see me continuing on to take care of others. I have an amazing team to support me and I couldn’t do it without them.
